We’re women of a certain age, but I have to tell you, it really doesn’t feel like it.
I mean I know it’s been 50-some years since we were plopped on the orange shag carpet in front of the brand-new color TV watching Land of the Lost, but damn.
So, fast-forward, apparently, to now, and we’re all grown up, and our kids (wait, what??) are speaking some strange new dialect, and they’re off to college or they have kids of their own (WAIT! WHAT?!?!).
This is us, Megan and Lesley. We’re two midwestern US friends navigating this whole new time in our lives that snuck up on us while we weren’t looking. And we hope you’ll come along too. Because, if you’re like us, you’ve got questions about what’s going on with your body, you’re trying to manage raising your kiddos and juggling your mom’s doctor’s appointments, and you’re a little nostalgic for banana clips, music videos, and saltines with butter. There are answers out there. And we're going to do our best to find them.

MEGAN BENNETTFounder/Host As 1971 baby who played with little plastic animals and Fisher Price Adventure People, I remember being a kiddo in the 70's and 80's. I remember listening to my grandparent's giant console stereo and switching between "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and the Grease soundtrack. (Seriously, have you listened to those lyrics???) Do I remember everything that happened in the 70’s or 80’s - fuck no. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t tell you what happened last week. But, that’s why this is fun. Talking all of this through, hearing stories and listening to others helps shake the cobwebs off. I’m a mom, daughter, and wife living in the Midwest of the United States and I’m doing all the balancing that so many women just like me are doing. And truth be told, I’m probably doing it half as well as most. The second half of life for me has brought with it the desire to embrace risk and try a shitload of new things like roller derby, the Irish sport of Hurling, tons of travel and healthy dose of “just figure it out”. |
LESLEY MEIERFounder/Host Lesley Meier lives in the midwest and will talk about herself in the third person in this bio. When she turned 50 she gave her last fu*k and started doing *all of the things* because being on the symbolic exit ramp of life is bad ass. During her first half-century Lesley has performed the roles of mother, daughter, granddaughter, wife, ex-wife, friend, pet parent (currently in her cat lady season), forever college student, overeducated and under-employed, deviant, rebel and rule-breaker. She has currently decided she is an Irish whiskey expert and podcast star because all jobs are made up so why not pick cool ones. She spends her days as a therapist and lives in a 100 year-old house that will never be finished. She plays lots of nerd games (level 18 rogue/cleric) and reads fantasy novels by the bucketloads. She remembers very little of the 80s because life sucked then but she has a solid memory of finding a random Cabbage Patch doll in a mall in Florida (WINNER), having shitty knock-off parachute pants with fake pockets (LOSER) and seeing Rocky Horror with her youth group in 9th grade. (Noodle on that for a minute.) |

What kind of stuff do people want to know? Gen X Women: Where you grew up? What are your interests? Favorite TV and Music, stuff like that. Don’t be weird about it. Producer Tim: … I grew up in the hills of Southern Indiana. I swear, there are hills down there. I watched way too much TV from Tales of the Gold Monkey and the Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon to the original FOX Network lineup of Werewolf, 21 Jump Street, Married…With Children & The Tracy Ullman Show. Music started with me playing pots and pans drums to Elvis’ Moody Blue vinyl in the kitchen while my mother cooked (I’m sure I was completely in time). It quickly moved to Duran Duran, which my older sister played constantly. By the 90s, I had thrown my lot in with the music coming out of Seattle and was playing music myself. My favorite movie was/is/will always be Clue. It has everything. A bit of action, comedy, sex, and a murder mystery set in a mansion where no one can leave till the murderer is revealed.
